The onboard activities and amenities can really make or break your vacation, so be sure you know what you're getting. We have no concerns about recommending Princess as a trustworthy cruise line with an attractive variety of destinations and onboard experiences, from small-ship sailing to large-ship amenities.

The line has introduced new dining options, such as the Salty Dog Gastropub and SHARE by Curtis Stone, which offer more casual and contemporary cuisine. I was told Princess would refund my money within or up to 2 weeks. It’s now the 19th, exactly 2 weeks later & when I called my agency to call Princess, they now said it may take up to 5 May, ONE WHOLE MONTH! This will be my last cruise with this company unless they change tier ways. I recently embarked on a voyage with Princess Cruise Line on the Discovery Princess. While the ship itself was beautiful, my overall experience was disappointing and didn’t meet my expectations. They had a multi-purpose court and two ping pong tables, but the equipment was worn down and in need of repair.
I was already a second-tier ruby member by the time I embarked on my third cruise because I earned double cruise credit on my second when I sailed as a solo guest and paid the single-traveler supplement. In my experience, gaining elite status on the Princess Cruises loyalty program is much easier than it is with other cruise lines. Travelers move up the four Princess Captain's Circle levels (gold, ruby, platinum, elite) via the number of cruises taken and cruise nights accumulated. If there’s one significant shortcoming to mention, it’s Princess Casino. The fifth and final Royal-class ship to debut from Princess Cruises, Discovery Princess ticks all the right boxes. The ship is comfortable and classy, with a general layout and public spaces that will be familiar to past Princess passengers and welcomed by those who have never set sail with the line before.

The ship -- essentially a carbon copy of 2021’s Enchanted Princess – doesn’t tinker with the Princess formula. However, passenger favorite Vines wine bar is missing, removed to make way for the Salty Dog Gastropub on Deck 5. A Royal Princess review is not complete without a mention of its laid-back, mellow-but-fun atmosphere onboard.

I always found plenty of quality food choices at no extra charge whether I was eating breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner in the main dining rooms or taking trips around the World Fresh Marketplace buffet (Horizon Court on Regal Princess). With the traditional “lido” buffet relocated to The Eatery, the only poolside offerings are Lido Greens (custom salads), Lido Grill (burgers and hot dogs), Lido Slice (complimentary pizza), Lido Tacos (serviceable Mexican) and Coffee and Cones. Here, guests will find several innovative water-themed drinks below a waterfall. There’s also Good Spirits at Sea, a venue with high-energy, drink-making sessions.
The North to Alaska enrichment lectures, such as a talk by Libby Riddles, the first female Iditarod winner, were excellent. The Princess Luxury Bed by sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus is one of the comfiest we've experienced at sea. Animal Planet- and Discovery Channel-branded shore excursions were passenger favorites. Oceanview Staterooms come with all the amenities offered by Interior Staterooms, but these also offer a porthole or window.

Age-wise, the ship trends toward boomers and older during the school season; our mid-May sailing had less than a dozen kids on it, but crew members all expected loads of children once school let out. Along with kids come younger couples during the summer months and holidays. The rest of the year, the average age seems to be close to 65, with a smattering of younger couples. The ship’s obstructed-view cabins are located on Deck 8 (Emerald). Lifeboats block views in all cases, but sometimes it’s only partially.
I then reached out to a new agency who helped me rebook the cruise in a balcony state room substantially cheaper with better onboard credit. My agency spent almost 2 hours trying to get OBC or refund, Princess lied & said the cruise was “complete” and it was too late. Frustrated, she rebooked us a mini suite for almost the same price as our balcony.
